We have been restoring by hand and with passion, this " King's treasurer's House " (simple traduction of "La Maison de l'Argentier du Roy", its French name since day one ) ; it took us allready 14 years .
It dates back to the fourteenth-fifteenth-sixteenth century, so French Royal dynasties as well as illustrious men and women were intricate part of its 500-year history. Together, some of these historical characters made the "future" France.
One on them, maybe the one who gave the name to the House used as his motto :
( to vailant/brave heart, nothing is impossibe ) , he was :
- Jacques Coeur, the Finance Minister ( king's treasurer ) of
- King Charles VII, contemporaries of,
- Joan of Arc ( who helped the king get his throne ) and,
- Agnes Sorel ( his influential mistress) ,
among other (past & actual discrete) celebrities like famous and talentuous painters, writers, and artists ... you may meet on the market days as everyone..
We shall try to give you the most interesting of their stories during your stay... and many other details we"re passioned by. You are living "History", here, everywhere....All our Bed and Breakfast rooms names, were chosen especially for each century this historic House has crossed ( some adjoin lounges to become larger and more comfortable Suites ) :
- the "Jacques Coeur, (or its optional) "Argentier's Suite ",
- the " Balzac's Library ",
- the " Belle Epoque ",
- the "Knight's Suite ",
and very soon....
- the " Lord of Plaisance ",
- the " Agnes Sorel "and the " Charles VII " as the " Royal Suite ".
They are overlooking the beautiful Rose Garden of l'Argentier du Roy, the Boxwood and yews shrubs Topiary "à la francaise" ( french garden style ), and the Indre River Valley, in an exceptional site, so calm and unique: we are in the little Fort St. Ours, original birthplace of Loches, about 450 AD ... our secret undergrounds tunnels still are full of these mysteries and legends, from those ancient times ...when Romans stayed and lived exactly on our place, as their "oppidum" ; it was in the 400's
And its " Knight's Cottage ", is a unique and rare self catering house in the Loire Valley.
This Charming rental house cottage is rented per week ...it has its independent character; decoration, and the romanticism of the time of its construction ( 15 th c. ), it is a timeless retreat in the Loire Valley and yet is so modern and comfortable ; it was completely restored during our 4 first years here, as daily job .
It was exceptionally ranked " 4 ears " ( equivalent of 4 stars ) when it opened in 2009 by Gites de France, plus, chosen as their first peaceful cottage self catering in town, in France, for its calm, his garden, and stunning exceptionnal views ( no exaggeration ...) from all sides.
Enjoying the unique situation .. while tasting one (or more ) of the famous delicious local Loire Valley wines.... on the terrace, is a " must ".
Everything is within walking distance of this hidden dead-end street ... free easy parking, an excellent baker at the foot of the footpath under the house , and the Loches' fabulous market (2 x week) is just a few meters away.
And shops, services and even an ultra-modern hospital (at 300m), and hundreds of activities around to keep beyond busy !.
" It is very rare to find a self catering with such advantages.. "
